Reading

Avalon Elementary School stresses the importance of reading starting from kindergarten and continuing on through 8th grade. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade spend 90 minutes per day learning how to read and write, while students in 4rd through 8th spend their time reading to learn, while developing analytical skills needed for the future. This is accomplished by using Scott Foresman Reading Street Curriculum and the use of our Beyond Textbook pacing guide and standards maps as well as formative assessment to make sure students are mastering the state standards.

Math

Avalon Elementary School is devoted to the students’ mastery of essential math practices and the development of critical thinking skills that will carry them through college and into their future careers. Understanding math is vital to all students and the school dedicates more than 60 minutes per day to the learning of mathematics.

Physical Education

Avalon Elementary School students participate in Physical Education activities two days a week for 30 minutes, under the instruction of our dedicated PE staff. During this time, students have the opportunity to move, compete, and develop team building skills.

Music

Avalon Elementary School wants every student to have an appreciation for the study of music. Classes are held twice a week for 30 minutes and include instruction on recorder, keyboard, guitar and general music education. As a school, we value allowing the students to be creative and develop a passion for the arts.

Subject Area Classes

As a back to basics elementary school, teachers also focus on a range of lessons in social studies and science, working to incorporate these topics into every lesson.
